POTT 2004 Scheduled
by kmikeym
The Portland Open Tetris Tournament has been scheduled for July 31st at 12:00 noon at The Cupcake. There will be three events, the NES Championship, a Head to Head Championship, and a Doubles Championship.
The Doubles Championship consists of four players playing Tetris on the N64. The game allows you to "dump your garbage" on other players, so two people will work as a team to eliminate both the other players. The 2003 Doubles Championship team consisted of Keiran Haggerty and Nate Wiswell. Nicknamed "Perfect Strangers", they had a heated battle with Gene Merrill and Tara Merrill, and it is rumored that Nate Wiswell will not be returning for the 2004 competition, allowing Gene and Tara Merrill a shot at the title.
The Head to Head Championship was won by Wade Cosgrove after a truly fierce battle with Steve Schroeder. The Head to Head game is played on an XBOX emulating the Super Nintendo game Tetris & Dr. Mario. There has been a lot of talk about Wade's twin brother Will Cosgrove entering the tournament this year.
The main event is the classic NES Championship. Quite simply, the person with the highest score is the winner. Judy Zawatzky maintains the POTT record with her 276,264 point score. Can anyone come close to this score? Classic gaming boards have been buzzing with the news that Keiran Haggerty, terribly unsatisfied with his 2003 performance (3rd place), has quit his job and dedicated himself to NES Tetris. Will it be enough?
