A New Champion
by kmikeym

Coming from the depths of Wilsonville rises a new POTT champion, Russell Thomason. Not only did he win the NES Championship Event, he also set a new high score with 280,726, won the Head to Head SNES competition, and with former Doubles champ Kieran Haggerty, he also took home the Doubles Cup. One man has swept through the Portland Tetris world, leaving the landscape forever changed.

Judy Zawatzky, the former league champion, is bumped to the number two spot after failing to improve upon her record setting score of last year. Ryan Wise and Kieran Haggerty, now third and fourth place in the league, also failed to best their scores from last year. Rounding out fifth place is newcomer Justin Sanders, who was bumped out early by the new champion. We look forward to seeing great scores from Justin in the future. Only a few minor changes in the overall league standings in the middle and lower ends, with Wade Cosgrove being the only returning player to set a personal best this year.

Photos and full tournament write-up coming soon. Check out the League Standings.

Tournament Tomorrow!
by kmikeym

Saturday is the big day!

Here is a map to the Borthwick Estates.

Last year the champion was Judy Zawatzky who won the NES championship and also had the NES High Score of 276,264. I have a feeling a new record will be set tomorrow.

Hello Fierce Tetris Competitors
by kmikeym

This is the email sent to our list of interested persons. Feel free to pass it on!

The 4th Annual Portland Open Tetris Tournament is planned for Saturday, July 31st at 12:00 noon. Jessica Roberts will be the hostess, offering the wonderful Borthwick Estates (3903 N Borthwick Avenue) for our gaming pleasure, and we'll be providing some food and drinks. We are asking that you make a small contribution to help defray the costs (like $5 or so).

Here is how it will go down. We will officially open at 11:00 am for Registration and Practice. At noon we will start qualifications for those that have not yet participated in the league (ie, last year) or want to attempt a higher score. We'll also start the Head to Head to competition at 12:30. The Head to Head will take priority, but we'll start the Doubles Tourney at 1:00, so both those will be going simultaneously.

Once those are finished, or close to wrapping up, possibly around 2:30, we'll start the NES High Score Championship. Now, the main event will be on a NES, the Head to Head will be on a SNES, and the Doubles Tourney will be on N64. (email me if you have any questions)

11:00 am - Doors Open For Registration and Practice
12:00 pm - Qualifications
12:30 pm - Head to Head Competition (SNES)
1:00 pm - Doubles Tourney (N64)
2:30 pm - The Main Event (NES)

Last year the event went from about noon to 5 pm, and while things will hopefully go smoother and faster, we urge you to plan on spending most of your day at the Tournament.

It would really help if you could send an email or fill out the Registration Form if you plan on attending (http://www.urbanhonking.com/POTT). And please pass this along to other Tetris Players!
